Ankipan Privacy Policy

Ankipan is a flashcard app for iPhone. Your data stays on your devices and in your own iCloud; none of it reaches us.

What Ankipan stores

Your decks and cards — the fields, rows and card kinds you create, import or generate.
Your review history — which cards you answered, when, and how, so the scheduler can plan future reviews.
App preferences — such as the last deck you opened and your reminder time.

All of this is stored on your device in the app's own container, and is included in your device backups (iCloud or computer) according to your iOS backup settings. The Lock Screen widget reads a short list of words that Ankipan writes to a file on the same device. Study reminders are local notifications scheduled on the device; nothing is sent to schedule them.

iCloud sync

If you use iCloud, Ankipan keeps your decks, cards and review history the same on every device signed in to your Apple Account. The copy lives in your own iCloud storage (Ankipan's private CloudKit database), which only your devices can read; we have no access to it, and Apple handles it under Apple's privacy policy.

Sync is on by default and can be turned off in Ankipan's Settings. Turning it off stops syncing but leaves the copy in iCloud, and so does deleting the app. To delete the copy, go to Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage › Ankipan.

What Ankipan does not do

No account or sign‑in of its own.
No analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind.
No third‑party SDKs.
No servers operated by us. Ankipan never sends anything to us or to anyone on our behalf; the only network traffic is iCloud sync (to your own iCloud) and the deck downloads described below.

On‑device features that use Apple system services

Deck generation uses Apple Intelligence's on‑device language model (Apple's FoundationModels framework). Your prompt and the generated text are processed on your device by Apple's system software. Ankipan does not send them anywhere.
Read aloud uses the system speech synthesizer on your device.
Spoken answers ("Say it" cards) use the system speech recognizer. Ankipan requests on‑device recognition where the language supports it. The microphone is active only while you hold the button, and Ankipan does not record, store or transmit audio. Where a language is not supported on‑device, iOS may process the audio through Apple's speech recognition service under Apple's privacy policy.

Permissions for the microphone and speech recognition are requested the first time a card asks for a spoken answer and can be changed at any time in Settings.

Shared decks

Importing a table or a deck file reads only the file you pick or open. Adding a deck from a link downloads that file from the address you entered. Such a deck follows its author: Ankipan downloads the file from the same address again to check for a newer version: about once a day (each time the app opens while an update is waiting to be applied) and whenever you open the deck's page, until you stop following it. These requests go to the address the deck came from, as any download does, and carry nothing about you or your studying.

Sharing

The session recap image and the deck files you can share are created on your device and handed to the iOS share sheet; what happens next is up to you and the app you share them with. A shared deck file contains the deck's name, columns, card kinds and rows, plus the author name and description you type in — never your review history.

Children

Ankipan does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated date.
